Bandipur National Park in Karnataka is a tiger reserve with an area of 900 square km.This is one of the finest habitats of the Asian elephant. Drained by the Moyar River, its open forest makes it easy for visitors to see the elephant and gaur in natural surroundings. The park has good facilities for viewing wildlife, which include gaur, elephant, sambar, chital and even the occasional tiger or leopard. Among other mammals are
the muntjac, the tiny mouse deer, wild boar, pangolin, giant squirrel, slender loris, langurs and macaques. The Park has about 250 species of birds and Malabar trogan, the Malabar pied hornbill, the great black woodpecker, the Indian pitta and the green imperial pigeon are part of its avian variety.
 
Flora & Fauna in Bandipur National Park
The scrub jungles towards the eastern limits of the park consist of stunted trees, interspersed with bushes and open grassy patches. Towards its northwestern fringes, there is a gradual shift in the vegetation from open dry deciduous forests to tropical mixed deciduous forests. These diverse habitats support an enormous diversity of animal life.
With the onset of pre-monsoon showers in April, Bandipur begins to unfold in all its glory. The resident birds commence their breeding activities. The air is filled with their melodious calls. Sprouting grass in the meadows and view lines attract elephants and the majestic gaur in large numbers. For the tourist who comes to watch the larger mammals in their natural surroundings, Bandipur is a paradise from April to October. Even before this, during summer, when dryness prevails over most parts of Bandipur, the backwaters of the Kabini Reservoir in the northwestern portion of the park host huge congregations of large mammals, especially the elephant and the gaur. This unique feature makes a breathtaking spectacle, and is almost the only one of its kind in Asia.

The park covers 498.29 sq. km. This is the habitat of large numbers of barasingha, the magnificent swamp deer. These in turn support the predators - the tiger and leopard. The grasslands are also ideal terrain for the Indian one horned rhinoceros. Other inhabitants include the sloth bear, jackal, wild pig and the lesser cats - the fishing cat, leopard cat, jungle cat and civet. Dudhwa also has an abundance of birds. Its marshes are home to a range of water-birds both local and migratory.

The forest provides no jeep safaris or guides. Jeeps and mini buses can be hired to move around inside the park. Elephant rides through the Park are also available and moreover the mahouts or Elephant drivers also double up as guides.

The park is conveniently located at an easily approachable distance from all the major tourist attractions of the state. Travel to the historic city of Lucknow or pay a visit to the shimmering water of the Ganga at Varanasi. You can also visit Agra, home of the Taj Mahal.

In the forested high ranges of the south Indian state of Kerala is a valley watered by three rivers. This is the Eravikulam National Park, known for the Nilgiri Tahr, a goat in dire need of the dedicated protection given by the State Forest Department and the company which owns the tea estates in Munnar.During the colonial days, the High Range Game Preservation Association managed the area as
a Game Preserve for the erstwhile Kannadevan Hills Produce Company.The Muduvan tribals, known for theit tracking skills, were employed as game watchers. they are the original inhabitants of these hills.The area was taken over in 1971 by the Kerala Government and declared as a Sanctuary in 1975. It was upgraded to a national park in 1978in recognition of it's unique ecological values.The planter community and the Muduvans continue their association with the protection and management of the park.The park is accessible from Kochi (Kerala) and Coimbatore (Tamil Nadu) airports, which are located at about 148 Km and 175 Km respectively.

Munnar is the nearest town (13km.), well connected by roads from Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

The nearest railway station in Kerala is Aluva (120 Km away from Munnar) and in Tamil Nadu is Coimbatore (165 Km)

The Kanha National Park is located in the Mandla district of Madhya Pradesh that covering nearly 2,000 sq. km. The Surpan River meanders through Kanha's central maidans-grasslands. The grasslands are ideal terrain for varieties of deer the barasingha, chital (spotted deer), chousingha, nilgai, the gaur (Indian bison) and wild pig, is 'tiger country'.Kanha is the home to 'hard ground' barasingha (cervus duvauceli
branderi). This area is also ideal for spotting the dhole or wild dog, langurs, wild boar, water fowl and birds. The animals at Kanha are best observed from elephant back & jeeps.It was here at Kanha that the eminent zoologist George Schaller undertook the first ever-scientific study of the tiger. Another landmark at Kanha is the preservation of the "hard ground' barasingha (cervus duvauceli branderi) - the only surviving population of this Central Indian subspecies. This was achieved by extending the grasslands, relocating villages and by increasing the habitat. The animals at Kanha are best observed from elephant back and the open country makes the chance of sightings reasonably good. Deer are seen along the maidans and gaur at Bamhindadr or in the Bishanpura Sondhar- Ghorella area of the Mukki range. This area is also ideal for spotting the dhole or wild dog. spotting the dhole or wild dog. Langurs, wild boar, water fowl and birds are also commonly seen.
 
Best Time to Visit
The visiting season to Kanha national park is within the months of April to June and November to January. The park is closed from July to Mid-November that is during the monsoon season.

Air: Nagpur at 266-kms is the nearest Airport to visit Kanha National Park and is connected by various domestic airline services with Mumbai.
Rail: Jabalpur at 169-kms is the convenient rail head to visit Kanha.
Road: Kanha National Park is connected by road with Jabalpur 175-kms, Khajuraho 445-kms, Nagpur 266-kms, Mukki 25-kms, Raipur 219-kms. Within the park: Koshi - Kanha (9-kms), Kishi - Katia (4-kms), Kishi - Mukki (32-kms). There are regular to and fro bus service available from Jabalpur to Kanha.

Sunderbans Park is located in West Bengal, covering over 1,300 sq. km., is home to nearly 200 Royal Bengal tigers. The Annamalai Sanctuary, lying adjacent to Mudumalai is noted for two species that are exclusive to it the Nilgiri langur and the lion tailed macaque.
